Joining the resort on 20.03.2021, Patrice brings more than 25 years of international hospitality experience to the role. With an extensive career across the globe — United States, Canada, Egypt and Indian Ocean — he has previously worked at Lily Beach Resort & Spa in the Maldives, as General Manager. A French national from Toulouse, Patrice played an instrumental role at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts during his 18-year-long association with the brand.

Tourism Ministry says more than 420,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year as the island nation looks to haul back its main economic lifeline after a devastating 2020.
Statistics published by the Ministry showed that till May 15, 2021, 428,400 tourists have visited the country this year. The statistics also showed that 382,775 tourists had arrived in the country in that period in 2020 and 700,493 tourists had arrived in the Maldives in the first five months of 2019.
Looking at the monthly tourist arrival statistics, until May 15th, 38,630 tourists arrived in the country while 91,200 tourists arrived in the Maldives last month.
March brought the highest tourist arrival so far this year with 109,585 visiting the country.
Meanwhile, Russia ranked 1st with the top market share to the Maldives taking 22.8 per cent of the total tourism arrival. The country was ranked 6th pre-COVID.
India follows Russia with 20.8 per cent of the tourism market but arrivals from India and other south Asian countries are expected to be low following the temporary suspension of their entry into the country as a COVID-19 precaution.
Authorities in the Maldives had said that as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19, entry is temporarily suspended for tourists originating from South Asian countries, effective from 13th May 2021.
They also said that with this change, all categories of visa holders originating from South Asian countries are now temporarily restricted to enter the Maldives, until further notice.

As managing director of the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation, Thoyyib Mohamed has played a crucial role in the reopening of his country to tourism. Here he shares his insights and experiences about how the Maldives was one of the first countries in the world to ease restrictions.
Breaking Travel News: The Maldives became one of the world’s first countries to reopen to tourists. What measures did you implement in order to facilitate this?
Thoyyib Mohamed: After almost four months of border closure, Maldives reopened its borders on July 15th last year with proper health and safety measures put in place countrywide.
The health and safety of tourists and visitors have always been paramount, and the resumption of the tourism industry was only given the go-ahead following extensive protocols after important consultations with health professionals and relevant stakeholders.
Originally, tourists only had to fill out an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and a negative PCR test for Covid-19 was not mandatory.
However, this was later changed and now all tourists are required to hold a negative PCR test for Covid-19 as well, conducted 96 hours prior to the scheduled time of departure from the first port of embarkation en route to the Maldives.
All tourists were required to wear masks at all times, maintain physical distancing and practice hand sanitisation as much as possible.
Tourists were also encouraged to install the contact tracing app, TraceEkee.
A confirmed booking in a tourist establishment registered with the ministry of tourism is mandatory.
Tourist establishments were regulated to ensure that they were in line with the Covid-19 tourism guidelines as per the ministry of tourism and local Health Protection Agency (HPA).
During the first phase, only resorts and liveaboards on uninhabited islands resumed operations.
The signature “one-island-one-resort” concept also ensured that visitors to the country were based in their respective resorts.
Together, these unique arrangements made it easier for visitors to maintain social distancing, whilst enjoying a truly safe and secluded holiday.
